DEFENSE OF POETRY
What is a poet’s silence, asks Ilya Kaminsky (UKR/USA). We speak against silence, and speak again, against silence, but it is silence that moves us to speak. We will speak of John Cage and Paul Celan, and of many other poets, of music, and the denial of music in order to find what John Keats once called “melodies unheard.”

POETRY FILM AND READING
Odveig Klyve (NO) and Kari Klyve-Skaug’s (NO) poetry film «Embrace» is based on a poem by Mansur Rajih (YE/NO) who spent 15 years as a political prisoner in his homeland. Rajihs poems give us insights into how love made it possible to survive the pain, loss, and madness of torture and imprisonment. The poet reads his poetry in Arabic while the actor Torstein Andersen (NO) reads the Norwegian translations.

I samlingen UR, som også er et arkiv har språkene smeltet sammen til et fellesnordisk språk med tekster om alle tings begynnelse, som urhav, grønlandsk Genesis og Darwins teori om artenes opprinnelse. Noe må også slutte, for at nytt skal begynne. Isene smelter, vann kommer. Under lanseringen vil Mette Karlsvik lese fra utgivelsen. Arrangeres av Spriten forlag.

Gro Dahle (NO) leser egne dikt den og forteller om hvordan det å ha en asberger-diagnose kan medføre begavelser, evner og personlige ressurser som kan brukes til glede og nytte for seg selv og samfunnet.

Schjerven, som er en av våre største poeter, sier om seg selv og årets bok: ”Jeg bor ikke i navnet mitt og har heller aldri kommet hjem til språket. Det betyr ikke at jeg har landa på feil klode, tvert i mot: Det har åpnet min takknemlighet for at jeg finnes her og nå, som enslags slyngel med et hjem i sansenes luxus, og får ta imot den krevende gleden det er å arbeide med ordene som strømmer igjennom oss fra så mye stillhet, og så mange stemmer og steder og tider.”

How do we write about physical disabilites and how does that effect the language and our view of each other?

WORLD PREMIERE
UNSOUND GTMO: recording the State of Exception.
In April 2015, poet Jordan Scott (CA) visited the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Detention Centre, where he was able to collect a variety of ambient sound recordings. Scott will present these recordings of GTMO environments in order to ask whether they might comprise a way navigating government redaction, and/or to question the presumptive values of dysfluency and the (im) possibility of listening in spaces of trauma. Scott worked in collaboration with composer and critic Jason Starnes who curated and produced the sounds for this event. We will read some of the detainees poems and screen Caroline Bergvall’s (UK) film Ghost Cargo (2011) before the sound work.

Rewriting the saga.
Gerður Kristný (IS) has taken a second look at the story Skirnismål where the giantess Gerður is raped. What happens with the story when the writer choose a different perspective?

Mellom sammenbrudd og henvendelser.
Diktsamlingen Også det uforsonlige finnes (2014) og den poetiske kjærlighetsromanen Bebo (2015) har gitt norsk samtidslitteratur en ny forfatter. Med stort emosjonelt trykk sirkler Anne Helene Guddal (NO) inn ensomheten og overskridelsen i akutte, konsise tekster. I grensetilstander mellom sammenbruddet og henvendelsens muligheter, finner Guddals sitt særegne uttrykk. Møt henne i samtale med forfatteren Endre Ruset (NO).

FILMVISNING
Den siste bohem.
Den norsk-jødiske forfatteren og sangeren Øystein Wingaard Wolf (NO), er et ytterst følsomt og begavet menneske som lever et marginalt liv – på godt og vondt. Håvard Rem (NO) har en kort samtale med Wolf før visningen av Fabien Greenberg og Bård Kjøge Rønnings dokumentarfilm.

TALKING POETRY
Language as a reason for war.
Contemporary poets in Ukraine are faced with difficult questions: how does a lyric poet continue to find music in a time of crisis? What is language in a country where two different languages have been pointed out as reasons for conflict in a war-zone?
Ilya Kaminsky (UKR/USA) will look at poetry from Ukraine to find answers to these, and other questions.

A new, welcoming language in a time of crisis.
Peter Waterhouse (AU) and Uljana Wolf (DE) will talk about Paul Celan and the poetics of witness poetry, and what it means to write poetry “on the threshold”. They will discuss the importance of witness poetry for their own work, and German contemporary poetry. In the time of the worst refugee crisis since the World War II, we need a true language of ”the other”. Moderator: Ingrid Kvamme Fredriksen.

Writing after Auschwitz and the communist era.
Ryszard Krynicki (PO) belongs to the so-called ’68 generation, who began to write during the communist era which was marred by censorship, publication bans and rebelliousness. Grzegorz Kwiatkowski (PO), who is forty years younger, has grown up a in country that has adopted neoliberal economic policies and apparently freedom. Before you were silenced, but what do the writers and politicians gloss over today? The talk is in collaboration with Biuro Literackie and Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. Moderator: Joanna Rzadkowska.

The absence of witness – five days in GTMO.
Jordan Scott (CA) is a poet whose work investigates embodied language or speech and disability. Scott’s latest project expands prior research in the poetics of stutter into broader notions of dysfluency, the sociopolitical realm of interrogation, and ideas of permissibly surrounding speech acts. His remarks on Sunday will document his recent visit to the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Detention Centre in April 2015.
